Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has said the government has taken several measures to tackle rising inflation, but it will take another two to three months for the effects to be visible.

The government will take additional steps to control essential commodity prices during Ramadan, Salehuddin told reporters on Tuesday.

As a result of its measures, the government expects the average inflation rate to fall to 6-7% by June, he added.

According to data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), overall monthly inflation has remained above 9% for more than two and a half years.

In December, overall inflation stood at 10.89%, while food inflation was 12.92%.

In July last year, food inflation peaked at 14.10%.
