OMS rice to be sold from February

The rice will be sold at Tk30 per kg, with a maximum limit of five kgs per person

In preparation for the upcoming Ramadan, the government will begin selling rice under the Open Market Sales (OMS) program to ensure affordable access to rice for low-income people at the upazila level starting in February.

This information was provided in a press release from the Ministry of Food on Tuesday.

Rice will be sold at 848 centres across 424 upazilas in 64 districts. A total of three tons of rice will be sold daily in each of the 401 upazilas in 61 districts, while one ton will be sold in each of the 23 upazilas in three hill districts.

Additionally, under the OMS (General) program, 907 tons of rice will be sold daily in 906 centres across Dhaka city, district towns, eight city corporations, and four labour-intensive districts (Dhaka, Narayanganj, Narsingdi, and Gazipur).

Each of these centres will sell one ton per day, with the Secretariat centre selling two tons daily.
