Mahfuj: All-party meeting Thursday to finalize proclamation

He said that seeking the opinion of the Jatiya Party at this moment was not necessary

Update : 14 Jan 2025, 09:06 PM

An all-party meeting will be held this Thursday to finalize the proclamation of the July, with political parties and other stakeholders involved.

The exact date of the declaration will be clarified on the same day.

This was said by special assistant to the chief adviser, Mahfuj Alam during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Tuesday evening.

The press briefing was organized by the press wing of the chief adviser's office.

Mahfuj Alam said: "I hope that through this meeting on Thursday, a document will be drafted based on consensus. The date of the proclamation will be decided then, and the government will also clarify its role in issuing the proclamation."

The student movement against discrimination and the Jatiya Nagorik Committee had intended to announce the proclamation of July on December 31 at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka.

This proclamation had sparked significant discussion in the political arena, with various groups questioning why the issue was raised suddenly and what its potential impact might be.

At the time, the press wing of the interim government said that the government was not involved in this initiative.

Later, on the night of December 30, the press secretary of the chief adviser's office announced that the interim government had initiated the process of drafting a proclamation based on national consensus regarding the July uprising.

On that night, a meeting was held, and the "March for Unity" program was declared by the student movement and Jatiya Nagorik Committee at the Shaheed Minar on December 31.

During that program, the interim government was given a deadline of January 15 for issuing the proclamation.

In this regard, the student movement and Jatiya Nagorik Committee have been distributing pamphlets and engaging in public relations efforts to build public opinion.

Regarding the participation of the Jatiya Party, Mahfuj Alam said: "The role of the Jatiya Party in the past is clear. Since we have not invited them to any meeting so far, we do not think it is reasonable to discuss this issue with them at the moment. There are many left-wing organizations, but we will definitely engage with those who have cooperated and participated in the people's uprising."
