Asif Nazrul: India’s hypocrisy on minority rights condemnable

'Even after the provocative and brutal killing of lawyer Saiful Islam in Chittagong, the Muslim community of Bangladesh demonstrated immense restraint and patience'

India's unwarranted concern for Bangladesh continues, while it ignores ongoing atrocities against its own Muslim minority, showing hypocritical indifference and this hypocrisy is condemnable and objectionable.

Law Adviser Asif Nazrul made the comments in a post on his verified Facebook page on Friday.

Citing a survey by Voice of America Bangla, Asif Nazrul wrote: "The majority of Bangladeshis (64.1%) believe that the Interim Government has been able to provide better security to the country's minority communities compared to the previous Awami League government. We have also observed how students’ organizations, madrassas, and political groups, alongside the general public, worked to ensure the safety of minorities during the recent Durga Puja.

"Even after the provocative and brutal killing of lawyer Saiful Islam in Chittagong, the Muslim community of Bangladesh demonstrated immense restraint and patience." he added

He further said: "Despite this, India's unwarranted concerns over the situation in Bangladesh persist. India itself continues to commit countless atrocities against its minority Muslim community without any regret or reflection. Such hypocrisy on India's part is both condemnable and offensive."

It is worth noting that the Indian government, along with the opposition Congress party, recently expressed deep concern over the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson of the Bangladesh United Sanatan Awakening Alliance and an ISKCON leader, in a sedition case.

Both parties also voiced worries about the "insecurity" of religious minorities in Bangladesh.
