Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan on Sunday said that fossil fuel use is one of the main drivers of climate change.
She emphasized the need to reduce fossil fuel consumption, adapt development models, and work collectively to control pollution.
The environment adviser made these remarks in a video message played at the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) during a program titled "Journalism in the Age of Energy Transition: COP29 Coverage Strategies and Mentoring."
The program was organized to enhance journalists' skills for covering the upcoming COP29.
Rizwana further underscored the importance of using knowledge gained from training to effectively report on the climate conference and to support at-risk communities through actionable steps.
PIB Director General Faruk Wasif chaired the event, while CAPS Chairman Professor Dr Ahmad Kamruzzaman Majumder served as the moderator.
Brac University Emeritus Professor Dr Ainun Nishat was present as the guest of honor.
Sweden Embassy’s First Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, Naoka Martinez Backstrom, and Managing Director of the Journalists Welfare Trust, M Abdullah, were present as special guests.
