Home Adviser Lt General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam has said that there are no security concerns in the Chittagong Hill Tracts regions on the occasion of Durga Puja.
The adviser said that security measures in these areas are robust and emphasized that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt peace.
He said this during a meeting with a delegation from the Bangladesh Buddhist Federation at the secretariat on Wednesday. Following the meeting, he addressed questions from the media on Wednesday.
"In the hills, there are known individuals who create chaos," he said. "Some people always try to worsen the situation, which the media has effectively highlighted. Our law enforcement agencies have managed the incidents that have occurred there very well."
He also spoke about the upcoming Durga Puja, saying: "This is the second largest festival for the Buddhist community. We will provide them with our utmost cooperation to ensure they can celebrate their event without any disturbance.
"We have assured them that they will be able to hold their celebrations in a joyful atmosphere. There are no concerns regarding security in this regard," he added.
