The government has announced new prices for chickens and eggs, effective from Sunday, per a letter issued by the Department of Livestock Services, signed by acting director general Dr Md Reajul Huq.
According to the announcement, the price of each egg has been set at Tk10.58 at the production level, Tk11.01 at the wholesale level, and Tk11.87 at the retail level.
Additionally, Sonali chickens will be priced at Tk260.78 per kg at the production level, Tk264.57 at the wholesale level, and Tk269.64 at the retail level.
For broilers, the price has been fixed at Tk168.91 per kg at the production level, Tk172.61 at the wholesale level, and Tk179.59 at the retail level.
The department has sent directives to all divisional directors, as well as the heads of the Bangladesh Poultry Industries Association, Feed Industries Association of Bangladesh, Breeders Association of Bangladesh, World Poultry Science Association, Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council, Bangladesh Poultry Farm Protection National Council, Animal Health Companies Association of Bangladesh, and the Bangladesh Agro Feed Ingredients Importers and Trading Association, to ensure compliance with these new prices.
The letter also says that the Department of Agricultural Marketing, in collaboration with the Department of Livestock Services and various poultry-related organizations, established a joint working group to determine reasonable prices for chicken and eggs for 2024.
Based on the group’s recommendations, the Ministry of Agriculture reviewed the report and requested the necessary measures be taken to implement the pricing.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has now directed the enforcement of these revised prices.
