Mahfuz Alam, special assistant to the chief adviser on Saturday urged in a Facebook status that the destruction of shrines, dargahs and various Islamic sects and institutions must cease immediately.
He wrote: "Today, they will destroy shrines; tomorrow, they will demolish the dargahs of truth-seeking saints; the day after, they will tear down mosques of different sects. Those who are perpetrating this anarchy are standing against Islam and Bangladesh. The people of Bangladesh must stand against them to preserve the diversity of Islam.
"One tyrant has labelled me as an atheist and Islamophobe. This liar has not investigated the truth. They are making false statements, rendering us vulnerable to harm. They do not consider the majority of Bangladesh's population as Muslims," he added.
Mahfuz Alam condemned the politics of tagging and the persecution of Bengali Muslims and all citizens of Bangladesh, according to a Bangla Tribune report.
He expressed that while they have fought against anti-Islamic forces and political extremism, the current situation has made them targets for violence.
He warned that the extremists plan first to target Shia Muslims, then Qadianis, followed by saints and their followers, democratic scholars, Muslim women in public spaces, and anyone opposing their version of Islam, eventually turning the country as like as Hindutva ideologies.
He emphasized that Bangladesh should not become a playground for extremist Takfiri Islamists.
He noted that these extremists have betrayed the country and stressed that the nation should resist the attempts of both the BNP-Jamaat regime's jihadists and the current fascist elements.
He said: "We will die, but we will not allow these elements to spill the blood of Bengali Muslims and all citizens of Bangladesh."
Mahfuz Alam also reflected on being targeted by extremist Takfiri groups, asserting his commitment to Islam based on a relationship with Allah and the compassionate Prophet Muhammad, rather than adhering to extremist interpretations.
He clarified that while he critiques the Islamist state models of Jamaat, Hefazat, and Khelafat, as well as the state models and fascist tendencies of leftists, his criticism will continue until fascism is eradicated through debate and dialogue.
Mahfuz Alam reaffirmed his commitment to preserving the indigenous, riverine Islam of Bengal, the sanctity of shrines, and the cultural practices of Bengali Muslims, while working to eradicate the ignorance of extremist ideologies.
Recent reports indicate that there have been attacks on at least 16-17 locations, including shrines and khanqas, by various ideological groups in the country.
Additionally, a person of a different faith has been targeted following a Facebook post, and several citizens have been labelled as 'atheists' in ongoing propaganda.
