AKM Shahid Uddin, the deputy managing director of Dhaka Wasa, has been appointed as the new managing director (MD) of the organization.
He assumed his new role on Thursday.
It is noteworthy that on Wednesday, Dhaka Wasa's former MD, Taqsem A Khan, resigned citing health reasons.
Taqsem A Khan was first appointed as MD of Wasa in 2009, and his tenure was extended several times.
Most recently, in August, 2023, he was reappointed to the position for the seventh time, for another three years.
Over the past 15 years, Taqsem A Khan held significant power within Dhaka Wasa.
Despite facing various allegations of corruption and irregularities, his long-term retention in the position raised questions.
Since he took charge, the price of water in Dhaka Wasa has been increased 16 times.
