The government is trying to implement labour regulations by creating a database of all workers so that no one is left behind.
Speakers said these things at a cultural program and festival titled “Garment Sramik Taroka Mela” at the Liberation War Museum in Agargaon of the capital on Friday.
Labour Department Director General Tarikul Alam said that the government is trying to implement labour regulations so that working-class people can improve their lives.
Labour Department Deputy Director Rokhsana Chowdhury said: “Everyone here is shining like a star. I want everyone to be such a bright star throughout their lives.”
She urged all the stars present to advance the production of Bangladesh.
Mahfuzur Rahman Bhuiyan, joint director general of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments, said the government is supporting the workers who have returned to their villages due to Covid-19 by giving them some grants through the Department of Inspection of Factories and Establishments, he added.
Karmojibi Nari (KN) and the Safety and Rights Society (SRS), two non-governmental development organizations, organized the festival in collaboration with GIZ.
At least 500 male and female garment and tannery workers took part in the program under the slogan “Healthy Worker's Beautifying Working Environment: Bangladesh Rich in Production”.
During this day-long event, workers and children of workers performed various cultural activities including baul songs.
On the occasion, an awareness play on the employment injury scheme for the workers in the garment sector, written and directed by Swadhin Shah, was performed as a theatre art performance.
Apart from this, stalls were set up in combination with various activities centred on the women's cafe in the Liberation Museum premises and the speeches of various public and private representatives present were highlighted.
Speakers on the occasion also said that Women Cafe has been established as a centre for relaxation, recreation, self-improvement, psychosocial counselling, legal counselling and information and services for the workers.
They expressed hope that the event will inspire and encourage the workers of the readymade garments industry, tannery industry and other sectors.
