Cabinet decides against extension of Eid holidays

  • Decision reached at meeting chaired by PM Hasina
  • Earlier recommendation suggested extending holidays by one day
Update : 01 Apr 2024, 01:35 PM

The Cabinet has decided that government offices will remain open on April 9, despite a Cabinet Committee on Law and Order put forth on Sunday.

The decision came during a Cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister's Office on Monday, chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Previously, the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order recommended extending the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays by one day, starting from April 9, to facilitate smoother travel for people going to their hometowns. With Eid-ul-Fitr expected to be observed on April 11 this year, the government had already declared April 10-12 as Eid vacation days (pending moon sighting).

Since April 13 falls on a Saturday and April 14 marks Pohela Boishakh, for many the holidays will naturally extend by two days.
