Govt approves feasibility study of new safari park in Moulvibazar
Allocations have been made for the relocation of 37 families living in the 270-acre area

The Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry has approved a feasibility study for setting up the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park at Lathitila reserve forest in Juri, Moulvibazar.
The clearance was given by Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin during a meeting at the ministry in Dhaka on Monday.
He said that many places of the proposed safari park have already been encroached. “If the safari park is built there, no one will be able to enter it illegally and thus the hills and biodiversity will be protected.”
He directed the authorities concerned to complete the master plan and preparation of DPP of the park, which will be named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, by December.
The minister also said that necessary allocations have been made for the relocation of 37 families living in the 270-acre safari park area of Jorichora and Lalchara villages of Lathitila forest.
Meanwhile, the green groups and locals have been protesting the establishment of the safari park for a long time.
According to them, the park will put the biodiversity at risk and lead to the eviction of the local indigenous communities.
Back in August, Bangladesh Paribesh Andolon (BAPA) had also issued a statement criticising and protesting this project.
