The tenure of incumbent Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has been extended for another year, according to the Public Administration Ministry.
In a notification issued on Thursday, the ministry said Md Shafiqul’s one-year contractual appointment would be effective from October 30 or the date of joining.
He began his career in 1989 as assistant superintendent of police as the eighth Bangladesh Civil Service cadre (police).

On September 13, 2019, he took the responsibility as 34th commissioner of the DMP.
