Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has honoured five women with the Joyeeta award in recognition to their success and contribution to society.
Fazilatunnesa Indira, state minister for Women and Children Affairs, handed over a cheque of Tk1 lakh, a crest and a certificate to each of the five recipients, at a program marking the International Women’s Day at Bangladesh Shishu Academy on Monday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined the event as chief guest via videoconferencing from her official residence Ganobhaban.
The five women recipients are Hasina Begum Nila from Barisal, Miftahul Jannat from Bogra, Helennosa Begum from Patuakhali, Rabizan from Tangail and Anjana Bala Biswas from Narail.
Helennacha Begum, hailing from Patuakhali, received the highest award in the national level for being successful in educating all of her six sons and three daughters with high degrees. Her eldest son is an additional inspector general of police, another son is a university teacher while another is pursuing higher education abroad.

Hasina Begum Nila was recognized for her success as an entrepreneur and businesswoman.
Miftahul Jannat, a visually-impaired student studying MSS at Jahangirnagar University, was recognized for her success in education and employment.
Rabizan, a freedom fighter hailing from Tangail district in Dhaka division, was recognised for her gallantry and efforts to start a new life after being brutally tortured by the Pakistani forces during the Liberation War.
Anjana Bala Biswas of Narail district of Khulna division was recognized for her contribution to the development of the society. She set up an organization called Matrikendra in 1975 to make women self-reliant through tailoring and handicrafts.
