Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque has said that the decision on repealing BNP founder Ziaur Rahman’s gallantry title will be taken after a proper investigation into the matter.

"Action will be taken after receiving the report of the inquiry committee," while addressing a discussion meeting at the Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of the National Press Club on Saturday, reports Bangla Tribune.

‘We have formed a committee in this regard. This committee will submit a report, within two months, with documented evidence on who did what on which date. Then, a meeting will be held after receiving the report and a decision will be taken after thoroughly scrutinizing the evidence,” he added.

Last month, the Jatiya Muktijoddha Council at a meeting decided to scrap Ziaur Rahman’s Bir Uttam gallantry award for violating the constitution, and abetting the self-proclaimed killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in escaping the country.

The meeting also decided to repeal the state-given awards to Bangabandhu’s convicted killers- Noor Chowdhury, Shariful Haque Dalim, Moslehuddin, and Rashed Chowdhury.

Bir Uttam, the second-highest award for individual gallantry in Bangladesh, was conferred to Ziaur Rahman for his contributions to the Liberation War as a sector commander.
