The Election Commission (EC) has suspended the National Identity Card (NID) of Regent Hospital Chairman Mohammad Shahed for fraudulently changing his name.
EC Secretariat Secretary Md Alamgir made the disclosure at the end of the 66th Commission meeting on Monday afternoon.
Mentioning that Shahed had changed his name from "Shahed Karim" to "Mohammad Shahed" in the National Identity Card on the pretext that it had been forged, the secretary said: “Investigation is underway to find out the persons from EC involved with this fraud… Action will be taken against them and Shahed on the basis of evidence.”
It has been known that his father’s name is Sirajul Karim, mother is late Sufia Karim, but now he is using an NID with the purposely changed name 'Mohammad Shahed,' Alamgir said.
“The number of the National Identity Card issued on his name on August 25, 2008, was 2692618145885, and his current smart NID number in his name is 8650406187,” the secretary added.
It was also stated in the meeting that while amending his name in 2019, Shahed submitted his birth registration, citizenship certificate, copy of passport and ‘O’ level certificate, but it has been revealed that he has passed SSC examination.
