The government has allocated Tk200 crore more to the Health Ministry to prevent the spread of coronavirus and ensuring necessary treatment facilities for the infected patients.
The Finance Ministry in a letter on Thursday informed the Health Ministry about this allocation, reports BSS.
On Wednesday, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said that the government had financial capability to tackle this pandemic and necessary allocations would be made according to the Health Ministry’s demand.
Earlier, last week, the government had allocated Tk50 crore to the Health Ministry for dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, which has killed one person and infected at least 17 people in Bangladesh so far.
Of the 17, three people were released recently after they made full recovery.
The Covid-19 pandemic, since it started from China’s Wuhan city in late December last year, has so far infected over 236,800 people and killed more than 9,800 in 177 countries and territories around the world, according to worldometer.
