Barrister Rumeen Farhana, BNP's lone MP from a seat reserved for women in parliament, has asked the government for a 10 katha plot in Purbachal residential area.
"I will be grateful forever if the plot is sanctioned to me," said the lawmaker in a letter to Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim on August 3.
Rumeen, daughter of late Language Movement hero Oli Ahad, is the assistant international affairs secretary of the BNP and a first time lawmaker. She took oath as a lawmaker on June 9.
In theletter, the BNP lawmaker said she does not own a flat or a plot in Dhaka, neither does she have anyother profession or business except being a lawyer, and requested consideration for her situation.
The letter Rumeen sent to the housing minister went viral on social media.
Terming the government illegal once again, Rumeen claimed: “I did not want the plot from the government but from the state, and it is my right to get this opportunity from the state as a lawmaker.”
On June 11, she criticized the government for its alleged role in not granting bail to BNP's jailed Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
She also accused the government for disclosing her letter to the public and alleged the government has made her letter go viral to hide Abul Mal Abdul Muhit’s duty free car import incident.
Minister SM Rezaul Karim was unreachable for his comments on this.
