The government wishes to register all online news portals in the country as soon as possible in order to curb fake news on the web.
“The scheduled deadline to apply for online portal registration was June 30 this year and has been extended to July 15,” said State Minister for Information, Murad Hasan, on behalf of Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, in reply to a supplementary question in parliament on Sunday, reports BSS.
Responding to an allegation that some online news portals were deliberately publishing ‘confusing’ news on their portals, the state minister said: “We have taken all out preparations to register all online news portals.
“Upon receiving the applications, we will examine and scrutinize all applications before providing them with the registration,” he added.
