Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has ordered to form guidelines for holding rallies, processions during weekends.

The minister said this while speaking to reporters after holding a meeting with Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) on Thursday.

He said: “No one can hold rallies, processions and programs on streets, expect Fridays and Saturdays. A decision regarding this was previously taken at a DTCA meeting already.”

He also urged the city corporations to recover the walk-ways those of which are illegally occupied and control chaotic car parking in the city.

Apart from that, he urged the Traffic Police Department, Transport owners and workers to maintain decency and not to honk horns in front of schools and hospitals.

Quader, also the Awami League General Secretary, said: “Not more than two people can ride on a motor bike and they must wear helmets.”

Quader also wanted support from the Education Ministry to create awareness of traffic rules and regulations among students and to include such regulation in the text books.

The minister reminded to follow the steps taken by late mayor Annisul Huq about the restructure of bus routes in the city to enhance the efficiency of the transport sector.

DTCA Executive Director Khandaker Rakibur Rahman was present at the meeting, among other top level officials.
