Sadhan Chandra pledges to work for food security

The new food minister seeks cooperation from all quarters to maintain the continuity of development

New Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder has pledged to work for ensuring food security and safe food for the people as per the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“The prime minister has given me the major responsibility of this ministry to make the country self-sufficient in food,” said the newly appointed minister in his immediate reaction to BSS on Monday.

Highlighting the importance of safe food in ruling Awami League’s election manifesto, he said: “We will work as per the prime minister’s instruction aiming to ensure food security and safe food for the people.”

The food minister also sought cooperation from all quarters to maintain the continuity of development and progress of the government.

Sadhan Chandra, a valiant freedom fighter of 1971, took oath of office along with his colleagues in the new cabinet at a ceremony at Bangabhaban in Dhaka on Monday afternoon.

Born in Naogaon’s Niamatpur upazila on July 17, 1950, Sadhan was elected MP from Naogaon 1 constituency for the third consecutive term in the 11th general election, held on December 30.

He is also serving as the general secretary of Awami League’s Naogaon district unit.
