Probationary diplomat caught shoplifting in The Hague

Update : 05 Apr 2015, 06:54 PM

A Bangladeshi trainee diplomat was apprehended while trying to shoplift in The Hague in February.

Shisir Mahbub Shahid, now on probation, admitted to Dutch police that he had followed the example of his colleagues who had successfully stolen from shops there. He was released after paying 350 euros in fines.

The Dutch government last week expressed concern and deplored the behaviour.

Shahid and nine other probationer diplomats were in the Netherlands for a short course for young diplomats.

They were staying in the Hague as guests of the Netherlands, which paid all their expenses. The diplomats belong to the 30th BCS batch.
