The land swap deal between Bangladesh and India will benefit Assam, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.
The Indian prime minister made the statement yesterday at a gathering of BJP workers in Guwahati of Assam, the northeast state of India, the Times of India reported.
Addressing the issue of safety in Assam, Modi said: “I am aware of the problems of Assam and there will be no compromise on safety.”
The prime minister also said he would use the deal to stop illegal infiltration into Assam from Bangladesh.
“I know the sentiments of the people of Assam. I assure you that I am going to use the proposed land swap deal for the benefit of Assam.”
Modi sought people’s consent for a Bangladesh-India land swap deal, saying: “It may seem a loss for Assam, but I will make such arrangements that it benefits Assam in the long run.”
