Nepalese FM hopes for signing of Saarc Motor Vehicle Agreement

Update : 13 Oct 2014, 08:42 PM

Nepalese Foreign Minister Mahindra Bahadur Pandey yesterday expressed his hope that Saarc Motor Vehicle Agreement and Railway Agreement would be signed in the 18th Saarc summit to be held on November 26 and 27 in Kathmandu.

“We expect that agreements can be signed,” he told the Dhaka Tribune after a meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart AH Mahmood Ali at the Foreign Ministry yesterday.

Pandey came to Dhaka on Sunday to invite Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to attend the upcoming Saarc summit.

High officials of the member countries had agreed on the texts of the two agreements at an intergovernmental meeting held in New Delhi recently and all members would now assess the deals to take their final stance, he said.

The communications ministers of the Saarc countries are likely to sit before the Saarc summit and finalise the agreements, he said.

The Nepalese minister said land connectivity, climate change, poverty alleviation, sharing of energy in the Saarc region, and promotion of tourism and trade are the main issues to be discussed in the summit.

He said since inception, many things had been agreed in the summit meeting but most of them were not implemented.
