China has invited President Abdul Hamid to attend the fourth summit meeting of Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) to be held in Shanghai in May.
Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka Li Jun handed over the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping to State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam yesterday.
Bangladesh is currently holding an observer status in the CICA, a multinational forum for enhancing cooperation towards promoting peace, security and stability in Asia.
During a meeting with the Chinese ambassador, the foreign ministry officials discussed about holding a bilateral visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to China, said an official of the ministry. “We floated the idea of the bilateral visit as there are some major development issues pending for couple of years,” he said.
Out of the pending issues, deep sea port, China export processing zone, tunnel under Karnaphuli River, Bangabandhu satellite, Ganges barrage and Bangladesh-China friendship exhibition centre are very important for Bangladesh.
