US-Bangladesh dialogue begins Tuesday

The three-day second bilateral defence dialogue and military planning talks between Bangladesh and the United States will begin Tuesday in Dhaka.

The event will take place at the invitation of the Government of Bangladesh, says a press release of the US embassy in Dhaka.

The first defence dialogue was held in the US last year. The purpose of the US-Bangladesh defence dialogue is to broaden and strengthen bilateral cooperation on a wide range of military issues, and enhance partnerships in peacekeeping, joint military exercises and exchanges, counterterrorism, and security cooperation.

The positive and substantial exchanges of the dialogue reflect the breadth, depth, and strength of the growing bilateral defence relationship, as well as our shared commitment to peace and prosperity in the region.

In the dialogue, the Bangladesh side will be led by the Armed Forces Division and will include representatives from Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Disaster Management, Army, Navy, Air Force, Bangladesh Coast Guard, and Border Guard Bangladesh.

From the US side it will be led by US Pacific Command with representatives from US Army Pacific; US Pacific Fleet; US Pacific Air Forces; US Marine Corp Forces, Pacific; Special Operations Command Pacific, Oregon National Guard State Partnership Program, Center for Excellence Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance, Defence Security Cooperation Agency, and Joint Inter-Agency Task Force-West.
