Saudi Arabia has executed two Bangladeshi nationals in the Makkah region after a court convicted them of committing an “immoral act” inside a mosque, according to the country’s Ministry of Interior.

The ministry announced the executions on Wednesday, identifying the two as Nazerul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtar, both Bangladeshi nationals, reports AJEL News.

According to the ministry’s statement, security authorities arrested the two following an investigation and referred their cases to a competent court.

The court found them guilty and sentenced them to death under discretionary punishment, citing the seriousness of the offence and the violation of the sanctity of the place and time.

The verdict was upheld by the relevant authorities, and a royal order was issued to carry out the sentences.
