Update : 16 Sep 2026, 06:45 PM

Bangladesh has expressed interest in supplying professional, skilled and semi-skilled workers for the development of Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC).

The issue came up during a meeting between Bhutanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Dasho Karma Hamu Dorji and Foreign Affairs State Minister Humaiiun Kobir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.

The Bhutanese ambassador congratulated the state minister after the meeting.

During the discussion, the two sides exchanged views on bilateral issues of mutual interest.

Kobir expressed Bangladesh’s keen interest in contributing to the development of GMC, particularly by supplying professional, skilled and semi-skilled human resources.

Recalling the vision of late president Ziaur Rahman, the state minister also sought Bhutan’s support for reviving the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) in the collective interests of the region and its people.

The Bhutanese ambassador expressed deep gratitude for the warm reception accorded to the King of Bhutan during his brief transit at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on August 26 in the presence of the president of Bangladesh.

He also thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its support in carrying out his duties.
