Chinese President Xi Jinping has congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on assuming office as Bangladesh’s president.
The Chinese Embassy in Dhaka announced this in a statement on Monday.
In his congratulatory message, Xi described China and Bangladesh as long-standing friendly neighbours, saying the two countries have respected each other as equals and supported each other on issues concerning their core interests and major concerns since establishing diplomatic ties 51 years ago.
He said China-Bangladesh relations have withstood the test of changing international circumstances.
Xi also said he is ready to work with President Mirza Fakhrul to carry forward the two countries’ traditional friendship, strengthen strategic communication, deepen high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and expand exchanges across all sectors for greater benefits to both peoples.
