Bangladesh reaffirms commitment to inclusive, citizen-centric digital governance at UN Public Service Forum

Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam highlights Digital Public Infrastructure roadmap, citizen participation and universal access goals

Update : 25 Jun 2026, 05:40 PM
Bangladesh has reaffirmed its commitment to building an inclusive and citizen-centric digital governance system, with Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam outlining the country’s future roadmap for Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) at the United Nations Public Service Forum (UNPSF) 2026 in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The minister made the remarks while participating in a high-level roundtable discussion at the forum on Thursday, where policymakers and public service leaders discussed strategies for improving governance through digital transformation.

Addressing the session, Anam said Bangladesh views DPI as more than a technological framework, describing it as a key tool for ensuring good governance and equitable access to public services.

“To Bangladesh, DPI is not merely a matter of technology; rather, it is a core instrument of good governance. Our objective is to ensure that a citizen living in the most remote area can access public services with the same ease as a resident of the capital city,” he said.

The minister said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, remains committed to establishing a digital-first governance model aimed at making public services more accessible, transparent and efficient.

Highlighting Bangladesh’s ongoing digital transformation initiatives, Anam said citizens can currently access integrated government services through several digital platforms, including the government payment gateway EkPay, the myGov application, the National Web Portal, and the 333 national helpline.

He said these platforms have helped streamline service delivery and improve accessibility for citizens across the country.

The minister also outlined the government’s medium-term digital inclusion goals, noting that efforts are underway to ensure affordable and high-quality internet connectivity as well as access to smart devices for all citizens within the next three years.

On citizen engagement and accountability, Anam emphasized the importance of public participation in governance

He said the Cabinet Division’s Grievance Redress System (GRS) and the government’s e-Participation platform are enabling citizens to directly submit complaints, feedback and policy suggestions.

According to the minister, these mechanisms are strengthening transparency and helping public institutions become more responsive to citizens’ needs.

To further enhance accountability and encourage greater engagement, Bangladesh plans to introduce an “e-Participation Ranking” system for government institutions in the near future, he added.

The UN Public Service Forum is one of the United Nations’ premier global platforms for discussing innovation, digital transformation and excellence in public service delivery.

The event brings together government leaders, policymakers, academics and development partners from around the world to exchange experiences and best practices in public administration.

Bangladesh’s participation in this year’s forum reflects the country’s continued efforts to advance digital governance and leverage technology to improve public service delivery while ensuring that no citizen is left behind in the digital transformation process.
