PM Tarique seeks support for Bangladesh’s UNGA candidate

He also issued a warning against corruption, stating that measures would be taken at all levels of government to combat it

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman called on diplomats stationed in Dhaka to support Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman, Bangladesh’s candidate for the presidency of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The remarks came during a welcome address at an iftar held at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka on Friday, organized in honor of the diplomats.

Ambassadors from various countries and representatives of foreign missions based in Dhaka attended the event. Cabinet members and members of parliament were also present.

Prime minister’s wife Dr Zubaida Rahman and daughter Barrister Zaima Rahman were also present at the time.

Speaking at the event, the prime minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting human rights, safeguarding freedom of expression, and fostering a culture of tolerance.

He also issued a warning against corruption, stating that firm measures would be taken at all levels of government to combat it, regardless of party affiliation.

Before the iftar, the prime minister exchanged greetings with the diplomats and joined the communal prayer.
