Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi on Wednesday described the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei as a “cowardly murder,” dismissing any notion of intelligence failure.

Speaking to reporters at the Iranian Embassy in Dhaka, the ambassador said Iran has the capability to sustain the conflict in the long term. “We have sufficient military power, including drones and missiles, and we do not seek logistic support from any other country,”

He added that the United States had carried out similar attacks in the past and targeted Muslim leaders.

On a statement issued from Dhaka that did not mention the United States by name, Rahimi Jahanabadi said: “As a member of the OIC and a Muslim country, we expect Bangladesh to directly condemn and protest the aggressive power.”

He added that Bangladeshi students in Iran have been moved to safe locations.

The ambassador said that so far, 800 people have been martyred. “Supreme Leader Khamenei was by the people’s side until the end; he did not flee.”

Rahimi Jahanabadi warned that Iran will continue the conflict with full strength until the United States pursues peace. He also cautioned that wherever Americans are present in neighboring countries, they will become targets.
