Indian foreign secretary discusses bilateral relations with Jamaat ameer

The meeting took place following the oath-taking ceremony of Bangladesh’s new government

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met with Dr Shafiqur Rahman, opposition leader in parliament and ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, on Tuesday afternoon to discuss bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh.

The meeting took place following the oath-taking ceremony of Bangladesh’s new government.

According to a statement posted on the Indian High Commission’s Facebook page, Misri highlighted the people-centered nature of ties between the two countries and reiterated India’s long-standing support for Bangladesh. He also conveyed his greetings to the Jamaat ameer on assuming his new role.

Shafiqur Rahman emphasized the civilizational bonds linking the two nations and expressed optimism for the further strengthening of bilateral relations.
