Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser Professor Dr Asif Nazrul said there is huge demand for skilled workers in Japan, on Wednesday.

“To meet the demand, the Bangladeshi workers should achieve necessary skills and expertise,” he said.

The adviser made the remark while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled “Japanese labour market: possibility and challenge” at the International Mother Language Institute.

He said: “We have formed a ‘Japan Cell’ and also have a plan to make a dedicated website, even we are following the easiest way for sending workers abroad.”

Alongside, he said, "We are thinking private-public partnership for developing a skilled workforce”.

Mentioning the reality of the public services, the adviser said, “When we visit the government office, we hear that the organization has no vehicle, no computer, no manpower,” adding that even the organization needs more manpower while 50% of the total manpower do not work properly.

Speaking on providing bank loans for the students to go abroad, Asif Nazrul said, “We will try our best to introduce bank loan facilities for the students willing to go abroad”.

Citing caution for those who are willing to go abroad, the overseas employment adviser said it is not well to go abroad anyhow, adding that anyone should go abroad through gaining proper expertise.

“Even we have to make the people aware so that they do not face any unfortunate situation for going abroad by selling his property,” he added.

About sending Bangladeshi workers to Malaysia, the adviser said there is a possibility to take 30,000-40,000 workers to Malaysia from Bangladesh in the next one year.
