BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has described China's leadership initiatives in regional politics as positive and expressed hope that such efforts will expand into broader multilateral cooperation.
He made the remarks during a bilateral meeting held on Monday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Fakhrul is currently on a visit to China, accompanied by a high-level BNP delegation.
The team arrived in China earlier in the day.
Other members of the delegation are BNP Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, and Selima Rahman; chairperson’s advisors Md Ismail Zabihullah and Prof Sukomal Barua; party leaders Zahir Uddin Swapan and Dr Maudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel (head of the BNP Media Cell); and chairperson's personal secretary ABM Abdus Sattar.
The delegation’s activities were shared with the media by BNP Media Cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan.
He said the bilateral meeting at the Great Hall of the People was led by Li Hongzhong, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress.
At the beginning of the meeting, the BNP delegation was warmly welcomed.
Shayrul also stated that Li extended an invitation to BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman to visit China.
He added that the CPC expressed hope that this meeting would usher in a new phase in the relationship between the two parties and the two countries.
Earlier in the day, around 2pm, the BNP delegation also visited China Railway Group Limited.
