UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed concern over the dissemination of misleading information against Bangladesh.

He made this statement during a joint press conference with Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain on Saturday, reports Bangla Tribune.

During the press conference, it was said that following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 last year, misinformation and propaganda against Bangladesh have been spread both domestically and internationally.

The foreign affairs adviser said: “The UN secretary-general has also expressed concern over the dissemination of misleading information against Bangladesh. His visit will go beyond just countering misinformation, propaganda, and attempts to destabilize Bangladesh. His assurance of support aligns with the aspirations of the Bangladeshi people. He will assist us in our successful reform process and democratic transition.”

He added: “The secretary-general has praised the reform process for ensuring a free and fair election and genuine transformation of the country. He has pledged the UN’s full commitment to the reform process under the leadership of the chief adviser. He has also assured that he will do whatever is necessary to support the efforts of the interim government and stand by the people of Bangladesh.”
