Guterres reiterates UN support to Bangladesh over Rohingya issue

He and Adilur Rahman Khan inaugurated 'UN House in Bangladesh'

United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh on the Rohingya issue during a function at the new UN building in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Saturday morning. 

He praised the contribution of Bangladeshi peacekeepers to UN missions, highlighting their significant role in global peacekeeping efforts.

Guterres also discussed the reform initiatives undertaken by Bangladesh’s interim government.

During his visit, he explored a photo exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of UN-Bangladesh relations and hoisted the official UN flag.

The visit followed a meeting with the UN country team in Bangladesh.

Later, Guterres and Adviser for Industries, Housing, and Public Works, Adilur Rahman Khan, jointly inaugurated the "UN House in Bangladesh" at Gulshan.

The event was also attended by Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan and UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, Gwyn Lewis, among others.
