Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain on Tuesday emphasized the importance of working closely with Moscow to address both regional and global challenges and to strengthen the ties between Bangladesh and Russia, ensuring that their relations remain as strong as ever.
“Our two countries must continue the legacy of goodwill, collaborate on addressing regional and global issues, and ensure that the bonds between Bangladesh and Russia stay robust,” the adviser said while speaking at an event celebrating 50 years of Russian House in Dhaka.
Touhid highlighted that Russian House in Dhaka has been a beacon of cultural diplomacy, providing a platform where intellectuals, thinkers, artists, and professionals from both countries can come together to celebrate and understand each other’s cultures.
He added that as the two nations celebrate the 50th anniversary of Russian House in Dhaka, both capitals look to the future.
“Indeed, this celebration of a significant milestone reflects not only the past but also our renewed commitment to building an even stronger, more vibrant partnership in the years ahead,” he said.
Touhid emphasized the need for Dhaka and Moscow to continue building on the foundations laid by Russian House, embracing new opportunities for cultural exchange, enhancing people-to-people ties, and further deepening their partnership.
The adviser acknowledged that Russian support in various development sectors has played an instrumental role in Bangladesh's journey toward progress and prosperity.
For example, he noted that the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant stands as a signature initiative in bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and Russia.
Referring to the upcoming visit of Rosatom's director general to Bangladesh on Wednesday, the adviser expressed hope that the visit would provide an opportunity to review the further progress of the plant's construction.
In reference to the transformative July uprising, Touhid noted that Bangladesh has embarked on a new journey—one defined by resilience, inclusivity, and dynamic growth.
Under the leadership of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, he added, Bangladesh is embracing a future that will be free of discrimination, injustice, and inequality.
“We deeply appreciate the continued support of the Russian Federation as a trusted friend and partner in building a Bangladesh that our students aspire to,” he said.
