Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain attended the Indian Ocean Conference in Muscat on Sunday, sharing the stage with India's External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, along with the foreign ministers of the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Oman, Iran, and other dignitaries.

Adviser Hossain and his Indian counterpart, Dr Jaishankar, are expected to hold a meeting on the sidelines of the 8th Indian Ocean Conference.

"There is a possibility...we expect that the meeting will be held," Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Rafiqul Alam, told reporters during a recent weekly briefing.

Earlier, Adviser Hossain travelled to Muscat from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

If the bilateral meeting takes place, it will mark their second discussion since the formation of the interim government led by Prof Muhammad Yunus in August last year.

Adviser Hossain and Minister Jaishankar previously met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York in September last year.

The 8th Indian Ocean Conference is being organized by the India Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman.

This year’s theme is "Voyages to New Horizons of Maritime Partnership."

The Indian Ocean Conference was initiated by the India Foundation in 2016 in Singapore, with participation from 30 countries.
