Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus concluded his visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday after attending the World Governments Summit in Dubai.
The UAE Sports Minister Dr Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, saw him off at Dubai Airport as the chief adviser departed on an Emirates flight back home.
In addition to participating in the WGS, the chief adviser met with several UAE ministers on the sidelines of the summit.
Discussions covered issues of mutual interest, including visa restrictions on Bangladeshi nationals, the expansion of trade and commerce, UAE business plans to invest in Bangladesh’s Chittagong Port, and efforts to strengthen ties in sports and education.
During the meetings, the chief adviser urged UAE authorities to lift visa restrictions on Bangladeshi citizens and recruit more workers from the country.
He also invited Emirati companies to relocate their factories to Bangladesh.
Following a proposal from UAE Trade Minister Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, he agreed in principle to establish an exclusive industrial park for UAE businesses.
The chief adviser suggested that UAE groups could turn Bangladesh into a hub for Halal product manufacturing, leveraging the country’s low-cost labor.
In response, the UAE trade minister expressed interest in leading a senior trade and investigation delegation to Bangladesh in the coming months.
Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain, Special Envoy of the Chief Adviser Lutfey Siddiqi, and Senior Secretary Lamiya Morshed accompanied the chief adviser during the visit.
The chief adviser is expected to return home this evening.
