Dhaka has sent the necessary documents to Delhi to bring back Sheikh Hasina under the prisoner exchange agreement.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Rafiqul Alam disclosed this information at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.
He said: “The required documents have been sent to the Indian government under the prisoner exchange agreement to facilitate Sheikh Hasina’s return. The diplomatic correspondence has been sent based on both political and diplomatic decisions.”
Regarding the Sheikh Hasina issue, Rafiqul Alam said: “Bangladesh will wait for a political and diplomatic resolution.”
He added: “The repatriation of other leaders currently in India will depend on compliance with international regulations, which is a matter for high-level government discussions. However, India has not yet responded to the request.”
When asked whether Bangladesh would share the recently published UN report with India, he said: “The report was provided specifically for Bangladesh and is already publicly available.”
Rafiqul Alam expressed hope that the report would stir the conscience of all individuals and that neighbouring India would take the matter into account and extend its cooperation to Bangladesh.
