Misinformation regarding an alleged attack on a bus carrying Indian citizens in Bangladesh has been debunked by fact-checking.
Sohanur Rahman, a fact-checker at Rumor Scanner Bangladesh provided a detailed explanation of the actual incident on X (formerly Twitter).
Indian media, notably Times Now, had claimed that a Shyamoly Paribahan bus, traveling from Bangladesh to Kolkata, was attacked by locals after a truck intentionally collided with it. Some reports went as far as suggesting that the incident should be considered an "act of war" against Indian citizens.
However, Sohanur Rahman’s fact-check post on X countered these claims, saying that the narrative being spread was entirely false. According to Rahman, the reality was much simpler: the bus had to brake suddenly when a truck overtook it, causing a three-wheeled easy bike behind the bus to crash into its rear. The truck, Rahman clarified, did not hit the bus at any point.
"The easy bike driver sustained minor injuries, and locals sent him to the hospital. The bus and all the passengers were fine and safe," Rahman wrote, adding that the altercation between locals and the bus driver was a common roadside argument, with no threats made against the passengers.
Rahman’s fact-check also included a statement from the bus driver, Md Asadul Haque, who confirmed that there was no direct collision with the truck and that the bus remained undamaged. The situation was resolved when highway police arrived, mediating between the bus authorities and locals.
