A total of 459 tons of ilish have been exported to India in seven consignments through Benapole Land Port.

The exports went through over several days, with 69 tons sent in 23 trucks on Tuesday, 89 tons sent in 30 trucks on Monday, 19 tons in six trucks on Sunday, 45 tons in 15 trucks on Saturday evening.

The export price for ilish is set at $10 per kg, equivalent to approximately Tk1,180.

Ataur Rahman, who came to Benapole to purchase fish, said that on Tuesday at the Benapole fish market, ilish weighing under 1 kilogram was sold for Tk1,300 to Tk1,500, and larger fish sold for Tk1,800 to Tk2,000.

Compared to this, Ilish of similar size is being exported to India for Tk600 to Tk800 less.

Regarding the lower export price, Aswadul, the officer from the Fish Inspection and Quality Control Center of the Department of Fisheries at the Benapole land port, said the Ilish export circular is from several years ago.

However, prices could be adjusted in line with the domestic market.

Rashedul Sajib Nazir, the deputy director of Benapole Land Port, said that 24 tons of Ilish were exported to India in eight trucks on Tuesday. In total, 459 metric tons of Ilish have been exported to India over nine days.
