A Bangladeshi man has been killed by gunfire from the Indian Border Security Force inside Indian territory near Paharpur under Comilla Sadar South upazila in Comilla.
The incident occurred at around 7pm on Monday but the news broke about 4 hours later.
The victim was Kamal Hossain, from Fakirmura Goliara South union in Comilla.
According to local sources, gunshots were heard near the border in the evening. Later, it was discovered that a Bangladeshi man had been killed by BSF gunfire near the border in Sepahijala district, Tripura, India.
The BSF later took the young man's body away in an ambulance.
Lt Col Iftikhar Hossain of the Border Guard Bangladesh said the force had strongly protested the killing.
“However, we still do not know why or how the young man ended up there. We have been informed that his body will be returned after an autopsy tomorrow."
