Dr Bernd Spanier, the EU mission charge d'affaires in Dhaka on Wednesday said the European Union has listened to the need for an interim government.
He said this while meeting with new Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain.
Bernd Spanier also assured him of the 27-country bloc's support.
"Let me reassure you that the EU will remain Bangladesh's friend and steadfast partner," he told reporters after his meeting on Wednesday.
“We have a very good discussion today with the foreign advisor. EU look forward to supporting organizations in this critical position”, he said.
The envoy said he came to listen to the needs of the interim government and how they can best support this transition period.
He said: “There are various instruments at our disposal.”
"As a EU, we are used to working with governments around the world. So we have short-term, midterm and long-term instruments in which we can support Bangladesh," he said.
Asked whether he discussed the GSP plus issue, he said: "We have not talked about GSP plus because this is anyway a process a bit more in the future and not of immediate concern right now."
