Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma and British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke met new Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain on Wednesday.

During their separate meetings at the foreign ministry, they expressed willingness to continue to work with the interim government of Bangladesh for the benefit of the people.

"Today's meeting was just a courtesy call. There was no agenda. India wishes to continue working with the interim government for the benefit of the people of both countries," the Indian high commissioner said.

The United Kingdom will fully support the interim government in restoring peace, order, accountability, and the democratic process, the British high commissioner said.

Following the resignation of Sheikh Hasina on August 5 in the face of student and public protests, an interim government was formed on August 8 with Dr Muhammad Yunus as the chief advisor.

Former foreign secretary Md Touhid Hossain was appointed as the foreign affairs adviser for the interim government.
