Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina has been relocated to a secure location in India amid uncertainties about her planned travel to London, sources familiar with the matter have said.
Hasina had been moved to an undisclosed location under heavy security, the Press Trust of India quoted the sources as saying on Tuesday. She had arrived at Hindon airbase on Monday aboard a C-130J military transport aircraft shortly after resigning as prime minister.
Hasina intended to seek temporary refuge in London. However, the plan was currently on hold following indications from the UK government that she might not receive legal protection against potential investigations into recent violent protests in Bangladesh, the sources added.
Hasina resigned as prime minister on Monday afternoon amid nationwide protests, subsequently fleeing the country.
Later that day, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman addressed the nation, announcing that an interim government would soon be established.
Reports have since emerged of several ministers and senior Awami League leaders also fleeing the country.
