Bangladesh and India have announced a new train service between Rajshahi and Kolkata and a new bus service between Chittagong and Kolkata.

The announcement came following the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday.

The two neighbours planned to expand connectivity on all fronts and restore railway links from before 1965, which were snapped due to the India-Pakistan war.

Modi also announced e-visa for medical patients from Bangladesh and the opening of a new Assistant High Commission of India in Rangpur.

They also announced the commencement of goods train services between Gede-Darsana and Haldibari-Chilahati up to Dalgaon and the construction of an Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Sirajganj under grant assistance to increase trade.

Another major announcement during the visit was the commencement of the export of 40mw of power from Nepal to Bangladesh through the Indian grid.

India has announced some 350 training slots for Bangladeshi police officers.
