State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Shofiqur Rahman Chowdhury said that 16,970 workers failed to go to Malaysia.
He provided the information in a press conference at the meeting room of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment on Sunday afternoon.
The minister said that the ministry has approved 526,676 people till May 31. Out of this, 493,642 people have been given clearance from Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET).
“According to the information we have, 476,672 people have gone to Malaysia so far. Accordingly, more or less 16,970 people could not go,” he added.
He also said that the ministry has formed a six-member investigation committee to probe the reasons for those who could not go. The inquiry committee will report and make recommendations within seven days.
At that time, the secretary of the ministry Ruhul Amin said that approval was given only to those who had advanced tickets since May 24.
