Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said what is happening in Gaza now is genocide, stressing that the Palestinian people have the right to live and have their own state.

The premier said this in an exclusive interview with Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency on Saturday.

“Bangladesh has always stood against genocide. What is happening in Gaza I feel it is a genocide. So we never support it," Sheikh Hasina said.

"The Gaza people have the right to live, it is a very sad thing. So we should help them, and stop this invasion and war," she said, speaking on the sidelines of the 60th Munich Security Conference.

Saying that Bangladesh has sent assistance to people in the besieged enclave, Sheikh Hasina called on the world to support and help "the suffering children, women, and people of Palestine."

Asked about the planned Israeli operation on the southern Gaza city of Rafah, she said they have never supported such an offensive.

"Palestinian people should have the right to have their own state, that is clear," she said adding that the UN resolutions for a two-state solution should be implemented.

Bangladesh has strongly condemned the killing of innocent civilians, including women and children, in Palestine by Israeli forces, demanding an immediate end to the brutalities since the beginning of the conflict.

Bangladesh has shown solidarity with Palestine's people since the beginning and sent humanitarian assistance to war-affected Gaza people.
Israel's air and ground offensive has devastated much of Gaza and forced nearly all of its inhabitants from their homes. Palestinian health authorities say 28,858 people, mostly civilians, have been killed.

At least 2.3 million people from are now taking shelter in Rafah. The winter cold added to already dire conditions when wind blew away some tents of the displaced and rain flooded others in the shelters.
